OUCH Volunteers

Why you should get involved...

At this moment in time, nearly 30% of the world’s coral reefs have been severely impacted through human exploitation and ignorance. Coastal habitats such as seagrass beds and mangroves are also under pressure from coastal development. This situation will only worsen over the next decade. That’s the bad news. The good news is that it is not too late to reverse this trend. OUCH can offer you the opportunity to really help.

OUCH is an organisation that not only supports the protection of our coral reef resources but also actively works towards this goal. OUCH Volunteers are out in the field now making an effort that really counts. And you could be one of them.

As an OUCH Volunteers you will have the opportunity to work side by side with marine biologists and marine park managers as they plan, prepare and carry out research and monitoring projects. Or you may even be involved in running your own research project alongside other OUCH Volunteers. Depending on your skills, you could be in the water, on a boat, along the foreshore or behind a computer. As well, OUCH Volunteers are invited to participate in numerous education and training programs which will enhance your skills and knowledge for working in the coral reef environment.

At the end of the day, the real key to OUCH’s success lies with its members. OUCH is a real grassroots community effort, inspired by the volunteers who live and work in the area.

With OUCH, an individual effort can make all the difference in the world.
